چکیده

Lettuce mosaic, caused by the potyvirus LMV, is a serious viral disease of lettuce crops world-wide. Beside seed control, one of the leading strategies to control LMV is the use of the recessive resistance genes mo11 and mo12. In an attempt to characterize the functional role of the translation initiation factor eIF4E in lettuce susceptibility to LMV, we cloned Ls-eIF4E cDNAs from a collection of lettuce cultivars. Data including sequence co-variation among nineteen lettuce genotypes, genetic co-segregation and functional complementation using two different bio-assays indicated that Ls-eIF4E is mo1.

The eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E controls lettuce susceptibility to the Potyvirus Lettuce mosaic virus.

The eIF4E and eIF(iso)4E cDNAs from several genotypes of lettuce (Lactuca sativa) that are susceptible, tolerant, or resistant to infection by Lettuce mosaic virus (LMV; genus Potyvirus) were cloned and sequenced. Although Ls-eIF(iso)4E was monomorphic in sequence, three types of Ls-eIF4E differed by point sequence variations, and a short in-frame deletion in one of them. The amino acid variati...

Virus Diseases of Lettuce in Brazil

Several viruses have been reported to infect lettuce. The most important is Lettuce mosaic virus (LMV), a potyvirus found worldwide transmitted by seeds and aphids, in a non-persistent manner. LMV causes quite variable symptoms, including mosaic, dwarfing, failure to form proper heads, and sometimes necrotic reactions. Cultivars carrying the mo11 and mo12 genes have resistance to the common str...

Identification and Partial Characterization of Viral Agent of Lettuce Big Vein in Tehran Province

Background and Aims: The causal agents of viral lettuce big vein disease are two viruse, Lettuce big vein associated virus (Varicosavirus) and Mirafiori lettuce virus (Ophiovirus). These viruses have coat proteins of similar size but have different morphologies and serologically unrelated. The purpose of this study was to distinguish and detect LBVaV and MiLV in lettuce fields in Tehran Province...

Synergistic interaction between the Potyvirus, Turnip mosaic virus and the Crinivirus, Lettuce infectious yellows virus in plants and protoplasts.

Lettuce infectious yellows virus (LIYV), the type member of the genus Crinivirus in the family Closteroviridae, is specifically transmitted by the sweet potato whitefly (Bemisia tabaci) in a semipersistent manner. LIYV infections result in a low virus titer in plants and protoplasts, impeding reverse genetic efforts to analyze LIYV gene/protein functions. We found that synergistic interactions ...

Capsid protein and helper component-proteinase function as potyvirus cell-to-cell movement proteins.

The role of bean common mosaic necrosis potyvirus (BCMNV) and lettuce mosaic potyvirus (LMV) proteins was investigated in terms of their capacity to function as viral movement proteins (MPs). Using Escherichia coli-expressed proteins and microinjection techniques, direct evidence was obtained that both the potyviral capsid protein (CP) and helper component- proteinase (HC-Pro) function in this ...
